John Steinbeck was born in Selinas California in 1902. He attended Standford University, but never actual graduated. He moved to New York to try and make it has a writer on is own, but failed. He eventually moved back to California where he became know as Tortilla Flat. This of course was after righting a couple of novels and short stories. Most of his stories deal with economic problems of rural labor. A common theme that also pops up in his stories is preserving nature too. In 1939 The Grapes Wrath was published, which is considered to be his best piece of work. John Steinbeck died in 1968 in New York City.
